According to the letter who dated August 20, 2014, Laboratory evaluation of risks to human health at KazNMU named S. D. Asfendiyarov is a full member of the who Network on risk Assessment of chemical substances. In this connection, the representative of the laboratory. was invited to participate in the first meeting of members, held in Paris from 8 to 10 October 2014
The meeting was attended by over 50 delegates from North and South America, European Union, Southeast Asia and Africa. The CIS countries were represented by delegates from the Russian Federation (FBSI “Federal scientific center for medical and preventive health risk management technologies to the health of the population”, Perm, Russia) and Kazakhstan (Laboratory evaluation of risks to human health at KazNMU named S. D. Asfendiyarov).
The meeting was a number of reports of world achievements in the field of risk Assessment. Group discussions were discussed the main contemporary problems of development and implementation of methodology of risk Analysis, such as biomonitoring, harmonization of international methodologies and standards, development of research methods, uncertainty analysis, a discussion of the risks, the organization of training seminars and workshops, etc.
During the conference, delegates were offered 16 project proposals submitted by a number of research institutes from the USA, EU, Africa and Asia. The duties of the delegates consisted of the selection of the priority projects, the rationale for their decisions, for the purpose of their further implementation in the framework of the who. In particular, there has been proposed a draft study of its impact on population health in the gas/oil method of Freking. The delegate from KazNMU was manifested special interest in this project and in the course of his discussion was briefly describes the range of activities provided by the Laboratory risk Assessment on the basis of KazNMU.
As a result of several discussions, the work of the Laboratory were interested in such global institutions in the field of risk Assessment as an Academic health center at the University of North Texas, Radiation centre in the UK (Department of Chemicals and poisons), IRAS (the Netherlands), ICPS (Italy), NIEHS (USA)and national Institute of public health (Quebec, Canada). Stakeholders were sent a list with the spectrum of services provided by the Laboratory, as well as the publication of the newsletter №3(1) 2014, dedicated to the international scientific-practical conference “Ecological-hygienic and medical technology assessment and management of risks to public health”.
