Department History

In accordance with the state educational standard of 2003, the Department of “Fundamentals of Nursing” was opened at KazNMU on 05.01.2004. The Institute of Nursing was established by the decision of the Academic Council (meeting No. 1 of 28.09.2014) of the RSE “Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D. Asfendiyarov.

The aim of the Institute is to improve the quality of education by improving scientific, educational and practical activities in nursing in accordance with national and international standards.

At the same time, the main activities of the Institute are:

  • conducting scientific research in nursing;
  • reforming nursing education;
  • reform of practical activities;
  • development of international cooperation;
  • self-management and consolidation of the nursing profession.

The structure of the Institute includes the Dean’s Office of Nursing and the Educational Department of Nursing. The Institute has a highly qualified staff, good equipment and all the necessary conditions for high-quality training of specialists. Currently, more than 200 future specialists in the field of nursing management are studying at the Institute. The number of graduates exceeds 250 people!

At the postgraduate level, the Institute trains specialists in the master’s degree in the specialty “Nursing”. To date, the trained 15 masters work as nursing managers in various healthcare organizations, as well as chief nursing specialists in the territorial health management bodies of the republic.

As part of the implementation of the Concept of development of the nursing system at KazNMU named after S.D. Asfendiyarov, the staff of the Institute of Nursing developed mandatory competencies for nurses of different levels, revised and improved the job descriptions of the manager’s nurse in accordance with international requirements. Training of nurses-managers and nurses of different levels is carried out with the invitation of visiting professors, as well as with the involvement of the teaching staff of the relevant theoretical and clinical departments of KazNMU named adter S.D. Asfendiyarov.

Gaukhar Otanbayevna Orazbakova in 2006 was an assistant of the department “Introduction to the clinic and the course “Nursing” of KazNMU named after S.D. Asfendiyarov, from 2011 to 2021 – head of the department, director of the Nursing Department, member of the Committee on Educational Programs..

Makhanbetkulova Dinara Nurgalievna has been the head of the department since 2022.

Dissertation topic: “Scientific substantiation of the model of strengthening the reproductive health of adolescent girls as an aspect of the modernization of healthcare in Kazakhstan”.

The teaching staff orients students to a holistic perception of clinical, administrative and managerial, psychological and pedagogical disciplines, allows them to control the process of acquiring knowledge, skills, and skills of future specialists.

The Institute’s employees carry out research projects within the framework of grant funding from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and an Intra-University grant from KazNMU named after S.D. Asfendiyarov.

The clinical bases of the department are located in the Republican Clinical Children’s Hospital “Aksay”. The Institute of Nursing closely cooperates with the University of Southampton and the University of Dundee (Great Britain), Charles University (Czech Republic), University of Health Sciences (Lithuania).
