Scientific-research work

The Department of Public Health is actively conducting research on public health issues.

The staff of the department, as part of the working groups of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the participation of leading research centers, developed methodological recommendations on scientific and methodological support for medical and sociological research in the Republic of Kazakhstan; integrated primary prevention of major groups of diseases at the level of primary health care; basic approaches to secondary prevention of priority groups of diseases.

The department is a graduate department, scientific and pedagogical personnel have been trained, master’s theses have been defended in the specialties “Public Health”, “Medical and preventive medicine”, “Nursing Science”.

Together with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Institute of Additional Education and the heads of health departments of a number of regions, topical issues of preventive examinations of the rural population within the framework of GOBMP and OSMS were discussed. Lectures were given for 42 healthcare workers of the Almaty region (Kozhekenova Zh.A., Aimbetova G.E)

The department holds international scientific and practical conferences, following which collections of scientific papers are published with the participation of the entire staff of the department, as well as teachers actively participate in interuniversity, city and international conferences, symposiums and congresses, systematically review research papers.

Every year, the department carries out a lot of work on the preparation of master’s and doctoral works, the heads of which are professors, associate professors of the department.

According to the plan, all employees of the department annually take advanced training courses and participate in academic mobility, both within the country and abroad.

As part of the program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan to attract foreign specialists, the department was visited:

Professor Rahim from Iran is the Director of the Research Center of Cihan University, Sulaymaniyah, the author of more than 540 scientific publications, is one of the 1% of the most cited scientists in the world with the Hirsch Index71.

Dr. Don Prisno is the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Public Health Challenges (Wiley) and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of BMC Global Health Research and Policy, Q1/IF of 8.7, Professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, author of more than 200 publications with a Hirsch index of 35.

During the visiting professors’ visit, the issues of priority areas of modern research in the field of Global Health, as well as issues related to the development of publication potential and the specifics of writing scientific papers were considered. An agreement was concluded with the professors on the supervision of young scientists, undergraduates and doctoral students to improve their skills in preparing high-quality publications.
